An earlier ancient document recording that Liaodong was rich in sea salt was Guanzi in the Spring and Autumn Period, in which "Qi has the salt of canal exhibition and Yan has the cooking of Liaodong", which means that both Qi's canal exhibition and Yan's Liaodong are rich in sea salt. Liaodong, which is rich in sea salt, is today's southern Liaoning.
